Our
Story
HiChale develops sustainable programs and services in the fields of education, healthcare, water supply, infrastructure, and social support, focusing on communities in Kalba and Funsi in Northern Ghana.

Although HiChale was formally established as an NGO in 2023, its work is rooted in over 40 years of development experience and partnership in Northern Ghana. These efforts began in the late 1970s through the collaboration initiated by Fr. Bernhard Hagen, leading to numerous long-term relationships and the successful implementation of projects worth more than two million euros.
​
HiChale continues this legacy by combining core values of human dignity and solidarity with a modern, inclusive approach to development. The organization is led by local professionals who benefited from earlier collaborations and are now committed to shaping the future of their communities.

Based in Kalba (Savannah Region), HiChale is also active in Funsi (Upper West Region), where it collaborates with the Ghanaian artist Wiyaala. The NGO was founded by Emmanuel Dery Kuusani (GHA) and Tim Becker (GER) is supported by an experienced Board of Directors and strong partnerships with the German associations Aktionskreis Pater Hagen and Rüt’n’Rock, which provide a solid financial and organizational foundation.

HiChale strives to enable the people of Northern Ghana to develop themselves and their region sustainably and based on friendship, with fair and equal treatment.

This vision of HiChale serves as a focal point for the organization’s mission in Ghana and will guide all aspects of the organization’s development of programs and services as well as what needs to be accomplished in order to achieve sustainable and quality growth as a Ghanaian based non-governmental-organization (NGO) with international partnerships:

Financial Resources: Never seize to identify small, medium and large financial opportunities that allow the organization to be programmatically and fiscally responsible.

Public Appearance: Be a communicator and multiplier within and outside Ghana, addressing the needs of the people in Northern Ghana, as well as the mission and activities of HiChale.
