About Us

HiChale develops sustainable programs and services responsive to needs in the areas of education, healthcare, water supply, infrastructure and social support projects, focusing on communities and individuals in Kalba and Funsi, Northern Ghana.

Our history and experience is based on more than 40 years in development and partnership in Northern Ghana. While the NGO itself was founded as a legal entity in 2023, the work and activities of its team lead back to the end of the 1970s when Fr. Bernhard Hagen started his friendship and collaboration with the people in Northern Ghana. Since then hundreds of friendships have been made and thousands of collaborations and projects have been developed. The team looks back at the implementation of development projects with a value of more than two Million Euros during the last 4 decades.

The HiChale NGO is the continuation and evolution of this friendship with the mission of developing sustainable projects. While keeping the core values of the Church’s support for human beings, HiChale merges them with a modern and liberal approach to society and – most importantly – is headed by local talents that benefited from this kind of collaboration in the past and are eager to invest in the future of communities in the Northern part of Ghana.

HiChale is based in Kalba, Savannah Region, and active in this community as well as in Funsi, Upper West region, where it collaborates with the Ghanaian artist Wiyaala.

Its Board of Directors is a diverse group of individuals with valuable background in terms of leadership, local knowledge, development experience, networking and funding. The NGO is backed up through a strong partnership with the German associations Aktionskreis Pater Hagen and Rüt'n'Rock, which serve as the financial backbone of the NGO based on which further funds and collaborations are developed.

Vision & Mission

HiChale strives to enable the people of Northern Ghana to develop themselves and their region sustainably and based on friendship, with fair and equal treatment.

This vision of HiChale serves as a focal point for the organization’s mission in Ghana and will guide all aspects of the organization’s development of programs and services as well as what needs to be accomplished in order to achieve sustainable and quality growth as a Ghanaian based non-governmental-organization (NGO) with international partnerships:

HiChale exists to develop sustainable programs and services responsive to needs in the areas of education, healthcare, water supply, infrastructure and social support projects, focusing on communities and individuals in Northern Ghana.

Our Values

HiChale believes in friendship and assuming goodness. People develop best as individuals, teams or as a community, in a diverse and fair environment with equal opportunities, based on integrity, trust and accountability for their actions.

Participation, continuous learning and sustainable growth are key pillars of our development goals, which are guided by the 17 SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) of the United Nations.

The members of HiChale focus on serving the people of their communities with quality teamwork, as leaders and role models while having fun and passion for what they are doing.
